Black Hope shocks in Dover trot

Dover, DE — Black Hope and 21-year-old driver Cole Olsen posted a 21-1 upset in the $25,000 Open Handicap Trot on Tuesday (Nov. 14) at Bally’s Dover.

Crystal Fashion, the 6-5 public choice, left alertly to clear JL Cruze and control a :27.4 first quarter. Black Hope angled out from sixth in front of the stands and picked up second-over cover behind Muscle Dynasty while Crystal Fashion rated a :57.1 half. Heading to the far turn, Muscle Dynasty broke stride while engaging Crystal Fashion in a :28.1 third quarter duel, and Olsen avoided trouble with Black Hope before taking his shot at the pacesetter at the top of the stretch. The 4-year-old Bar Hopping gelding won by a half length for owner-trainer Darren Olsen, covering the mile in 1:54.4.
