Alexa Skye equals Meadows track record

Washington, PA — Alexa Skye quarter-poled to the top and kept right on rolling to score in 1:49.4 — matching the track record for older mares — in Thursday’s (Nov. 30) $21,200 Fillies and Mares Open Handicap Pace at Hollywood Casino at The Meadows.

Once she reached the point, the 6-year-old daughter of Somebeachsomewhere-Pirouette Hanover turned back the first-over challenge of Southwind Bella and opened up, prevailing for Dave Palone by three lengths. Her time equals her previous lifetime mark as well as the record established by Medusa in 2017.

Alexa Skye joined Medusa in the track record book at The Meadows with a 1:49.4 win — jointly the fastest mile paced by an older mare in the track’s 60-year history. Chris Gooden photo.

Blue Ivy closed nicely for second while Southwind Bella saved show.

Virgil Morgan Jr. trains Alexa Skye, who now boasts a career bankroll of $461,579, for Let It Ride Stables Inc. and Bottom Line Racing LLC. It was one of three wins for Palone on the 13-race card.

Live racing at The Meadows continues Friday (Dec. 1), when the 13-race program features a $7,500 guarantee in the Early Pick-4 (races 1-4) offered by The Meadows, the Meadows Standardbred Owners Association (MSOA) and the United States Trotting Association Strategic Wagering Initiative. The card also features a pair of carryovers: $1,458.70 in the early pentafecta (race 4) and $1,350.43 in the Pick-5 (races 9-13). First post is 12:45 p.m.
