Bangor Raceway cancels Wednesday card due to heatwave

Bangor, ME — Due to heat indexes forecasted to reach, if not exceed, 107 degrees on Wednesday (June 19), Bangor Raceway management has made the decision to cancel the Wednesday race card.

“Our utmost responsibility is to ensure the safety of the horses, horsemen and women, patrons, and our employees,” said Live Racing Manager Michael Hopkins. “We had hoped to be able to race the card at 11 a.m. in an attempt to beat the heat but as forecasts predicted a more intense heatwave, the only prudent action was to cancel.”

The Maine Standardbred Breeders and Owners Association are currently in discussion to determine when and where Wednesday’s scheduled Maine Sire Stakes races will be conducted. An announcement will be made soon.

Live harness racing is proudly featured at Bangor Raceway throughout the summer season every Wednesday afternoon at 3 p.m. (EDT) with the Sunday morning matinees going to post bright and early at 11 a.m. Simulcast wagering is available daily in the grandstand facility.
