Oskaloosa, IA — A total of 108 horses competed in Saturday’s (July 28) Iowa Sires Stakes meet with many winners staying undefeated against Iowa-sired company.

In a field of eight 2-year-old pacing colts, My Money Honey and driver Rob Anderson started from the second tier in post position seven. They settled into sixth behind the hustle of multiple lead changes in the front of the pack. The field reached the half in 1:00.3, where Anderson and the Sneaky B Skipalong gelding made their move going three-wide into turn three.

The pair picked off competitors and captured the front at the three-quarters in 1:33, still three-wide. Continuing to surge, My Money Honey separated from the field crossing the wire in 2:05 to remain undefeated in the Iowa Sires Stakes. The chestnut gelding is trained by Rick Huffman and owned by Huffman and his granddaughter Kayveonna Johnson.

Two-year-old pacing fillies split into two divisions with the first going to Heavy Handed Hanna. The Millionaire Cam filly was driven by Will Roland. The pair worked to the front before the quarter and never looked back. The filly paced the mile in 2:05.3, remaining on top in the Iowa-sired standings. Heavy Handed Hanna is trained by Curtis Carey and owned by Jesse Delong, Lindsay Reuckart and Jeff Carey.

The second division went to Diamonds Are Trump in her first win in five starts. Owned, trained and driven by Duane Roland, the Marced Card filly sat in the pocket until the head of the stretch when she tipped out and charged to the wire in a photo-finish win in 2:06.1.

There were two divisions of 2-year-old trotting colts. The first went to Night Rail and Duane Roland, improving from their second place finish in his last Sires Stakes race. The Rail Splitter colt was first over at the quarter in :34.1, took the front around the second turn, and held off multiple adversaries to win in 2:10. Night Rail is owned by Duane & Connie Roland.

Ricky Be Sharp was on point again, putting out another fine Iowa Sires Stakes performance. After edging to the lead at the quarter, the American Native gelding cut the rest of the mile winning in 2:10. Ricky Be Sharp is owned, trained and driven by Lorenza Gooch.

Eight 2-year-old trotting fillies went to the gate looking to unseat current leader Bankn-On-Emily, but it wasn’t going to happen today. The filly came into her race with five wins in six lifetime starts, including the last Iowa Sires Stakes meet. With Royal Roland in the bike, the Macduffie filly won in another wire-to-wire performance besting the field in 2:08.2. Bankn-On-Emily is owned and trained by Thomas and Kathy Shipley.

Scramble Camp defended his title as Iowa’s top 3-year-old trotter in a field of five. Dan Roland settled the Weight Lifter gelding into the two hole, waiting to make his move. Scramble Camp pulled out the first time past the grandstand and raced a gritty last half, finally taking the lead at the head of the stretch. Holding off a late charge by Pond Jumper, Scramble Camp trotted across the wire in 2:04.2 winning for owners Jeri Roland, Robert Davis, CD Huffman and Larry Mather.

Top Iowa-sired filly Windy Sue held off a field of five to take the only field of 3-year-old trotting fillies. Driver Mark Mintun pulled off another wire-to-wire Sires Stakes performance with the Southwind Elian filly, finishing the mile in 2:05.4. Windy Sue is owned by Mintun and Lesa Peters.

Sneakydon’tfailme continued her winning streak, taking the total to four in a row. The Sneaky B Skipalong filly has been picking away at her personal bests, dropping time in each of her last four wins. Today she topped a full field of eight 3-year-old pacing fillies, winning in 2:00.3 with driver/trainer Mark Mintun in the bike. Sneakydon’tfailme is owned by Mintun and his sister and nephew, Stephanie and Justin Gould.

Both divisions of 3-year-old pacing colts went to the top two geldings leading in the Iowa-sired standings. Duane Roland’s Marc Mellow Man matched his personal best taking the first division in 2:01.4. The Marced Card gelding made few starts at two and has come on strongly his 3-year-old year. In the final feature race of the day, Will Roland piloted 2017 champion Minnie Vinnie to another victory in 1:57.3, the fastest mile of the day. The 3-year-old Millionaire Cam gelding put another tally in the win column for trainer Curtis Carey and owners Jeff Cary, Jesse Delong, Rick Huffman and Larry Mather.

The final Iowa Sires Stakes meet will go off at Humboldt on Saturday (Aug. 25). Post time is 12:30 p.m.
