Vernon, NY — Vernon Downs welcomes three divisions of the New York Sire Stakes (NYSS) for 3-year-old pacing fillies on Thursday (July 12). All divisions will race for a purse of $39,900.

In the first division Checkered Past (Jim Morrill Jr.) is the 2-1 morning line favorite. Owned by All Star Racing and trained by Peter Foley, the daughter of American Ideal is two-for-10 this year. Her most impressive victory was in a leg of the NYSS ($58,000) at Buffalo Raceway (June 13). She has six career wins.

The second morning line choice in that contest is Newsday (Jim Marohn Jr.) at 3-1. Owned by Mary Kinsey, Edward Mcenery, Michael Gluckman and trainer Richard Silverman, the filly is by Art Major. She has two wins in 2018, including a NYSS ($56,833) win against Checkered Past at Yonkers Raceway (June 21). Newsday is out of the talented mare Good News Lady (Western Ideal, $775,760) and is a half sister to Exposed (Artiscape, $114,526) and Vegas Dream (Bettor’s Delight, $152,628).
