Lois Smith, 76, dies

Columbus, OH — Lois E. Smith, 76, of North Hanover, N.J., died May 15, 2018, at home.

Born in Trenton, she resided in Allentown most of her life before moving to North Hanover. She raised her five children while also being involved as the bookkeeper for the family’s Standardbred racing stable. She never missed an opportunity to take her family to the track to watch their father race.

As her children grew older she went on to work at Allentown Caging, Patterson Chevrolet, and Perretti Farms as an administrative assistant.

She was a member of The Allentown Presbyterian Church. She enjoyed family vacations in Ocean City, N.J. and frequent visits to Amish Country. Throughout her life she was an avid sports fan and loved watching the Phillies, Eagles and Flyers.

She never lost her passion for the horses and continued to follow racing, particularly the races her children’s horses where involved with.

Above all, she was devoted to her family. She adored her grandchildren and especially taking pride in seeing them grow.

The daughter of the late George and Ruth Leber, she is survived by her daughters, Terry (John) Richardson, Debra (James), Charlene, and Patricia (Robert) Harmon; son, Dale; grandchildren, Jeffrey (Krista) Richardson, Mikayla Storey, Haley Storey, Madison Storey, Tyler Harmon and Grace Patterson-Smith.

A visitation will be held Thursday (May 24) from 6-9 p.m. at the Peppler Funeral Home, 114 S. Main St., Allentown. A memorial service will begin at 7:30 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Lois’ name to the Harness Horse Youth Foundation, 217 East Main St., Sudlersville, MD 21668.
