Silva wins for third consecutive week to take GSY Spring Series finale

East Rutherford, NJ — Under clear skies and unseasonably cold mid-40 degree temperatures for the middle of April, the GSY Spring Fling Series took place Friday night (April 20) at the Big M in the third race on the card.

Nine trotters went to post and after an early breaker before the start, only two horses left the gate for the lead. That is where 99-1 Winwood Scout from post nine found himself on the lead with David Glasser holding the lines. He held that lead until the midway point of the race and that is when the heavy favorite, Gold Medal Swan, with trainer Mark Silva in the sulky, made his move and took command as they turned for home.

He really didn’t urge his trotter on for a majority of the stretch and was able to stave off all closers en route to a half-length victory. Hot Summer Knight finished second with another trainer in the bike, Rob Harmon, and longshot Shady McCoy, with David Offenberg at the helm got up for third.

The mile was timed in a tepid 1:56.3. It was Silva’s third consecutive victory in as many tries on the season for him. He picked up a majority of the final $12,500 purse.

This 5-year-old gelding by Swan For All is owned and trained by Silva himself.

Part of the club proceeds go towards the GSY/EWEY (Edward Weiner & Edward Yarock Equine Scholarships). The deadline to apply is May 31. For more information please click here.

Next week, a new GSY series begins which is named the Hot To Trot Series for optional $15K claimers or conditional trotters that fit non-winners of $6,000 in their last five starts. The first post is slated for 7:15 p.m.
