East Rutherford, NJ — John Masslon of Pittsburgh, Pa., won the grand prize in the 2017-2018 Meadowlands Racing & Entertainment Winter Survival Challenge, which ran from Nov. 4 through March 24.

Masslon accumulated a bankroll of $764.70 based upon a mythical $2 across the board wager on three designated Meadowlands races each night.

Masslon’s win earns him $1,500, plus a berth into the $75,000 guaranteed World Harness Handicapping Championship presented by DerbyWars.com on Saturday (April 28). This was his first online contest.

“I thought there was no way I’d make it anywhere close to the end. I lost my free “horseshoe” (free life line) on the first day of the contest.”

Gil Winston of Manalapan, N.J., finished in second place with a final bankroll of $762.30. Winston, a regular WHHC participant, received $1,250 for his second place finish and the most contest winners and a WHHC seat.

Karen Angelos, of Renton, Wash., captured third place with a bankroll of $719.20. Her prize was $500.
