Bettor sues trainer Bresnahan for EPO positive

from the USTA Communications Department

Columbus, OH — The Associated Press in New York has reported that bettor Jeffrey Tretter from Granite City, Ill., filed a lawsuit Wednesday (March 7) in U.S. District Court in New Jersey alleging fraud on the part of trainer Robert Bresnahan Jr. and the company that owned the horse Tag Up And Go.

The lawsuit says Tretter placed wagers through an online betting site on a race at the Meadowlands Racetrack on Jan. 15, 2016 and the horses he picked to place first through fifth instead finished behind Tag Up And Go, who had been a longshot in the race.

On Jan. 31, 2016, the USTA’s website reported the announcement by the Meadowlands Racetrack that Tag Up And Go had returned a positive test for epogen (EPO) from blood samples taken in an out-of-competition test conducted on Dec. 8, 2015 at Bresnahan’s barn at Gaitway Farm in New Jersey that were tested at the Hong Kong Racing Laboratory.

According to the Meadowlands’ announcement, Bresnahan was placed on the exclusion lists for the Meadowlands, Tioga Downs and Vernon Downs, where he was not allowed to participate in races at those tracks for 60 days.
