Nancy Papa, 87, dies

Vernon, NY — Nancy S. Papa, 87, of Utica, N.Y., died Aug. 30, 2017, at Faxton-St. Luke’s Healthcare Center in New Hartford after a long illness.

Mrs. Papa was born April 27, 1930, in Utica, the daughter of Vincent and Catherine (Grossi) Toti. She was raised and educated locally and a Proctor graduate, Class of 1948. On Oct. 13, 1951, she married Louis F. Papa in St. Anthony’s Church in Utica.

She had been employed with Keybank in Utica.

Mrs. Papa was a member of the United States Trotting Association and the Harness Horse Association of Central New York. She was a communicant of St. Mark’s Church in North Utica,

She is survived by her husband, Louis; son and daughter-in-law, Rick (Susan); daughter and son-in-law, Sharon (Raymond Hooker); and grandchildren, Matthew, Sarah, and Brittany. She was preceded in death by brothers, Mike Toti and Vincent Toti.

Mrs. Papa’s funeral will be held on Wednesday (Sept. 6) at 11 a.m. at St. Mark’s Church in North Utica, where her Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Utica. There are no public calling hours.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Wilmont Cancer Institute, 601 Elmwood Ave., Rochester, NY 14642.

Arrangements are entrusted to the Heintz Funeral Home, 408 Herkimer Rd., North Utica.

The family offers their thanks and heartfelt appreciation to Dr. Butala of Faxton-St. Luke’s HCC as well as Dr. Barr of the Wilmont Cancer Institute for the care and compassion shown to Mrs. Papa and her family during this time.
