Arrangements announced for Richard “Dick” Jones

Columbus, OH — Richard “Dick” Jones, 85, of Dublin, Ohio, died July 27, 2017, after complications from cancer.

He was born on June 19, 1932 in Youngstown, Ohio, to the late Paul and Frances Jones. He graduated from Bowling Green State University in 1956 and that same year on Aug. 18, he married the love of his life, Susan, in Euclid, Ohio.

He served in the U.S. Army and was stationed in San Antonio, Texas. He and Susan moved back to Ohio after his honorable discharge, residing in Cleveland, Massillon, Euclid and Columbus where he and Susan put down roots to raise their family. He and Susan attended Gethsemane Lutheran Church in Clintonville.

He was a member of Delta Tau Delta Fraternity, insurance manager of Commercial Union Insurance Company in Cleveland, and former associate editor for the USTA’s Hoof Beats magazine.

Mr. Jones had a love of horses and horse racing. He and Susan raced horses and owned several harness racing competitors. They especially enjoyed attending the Little Brown Jug and this became a yearly tradition for the two. He also loved watching Ohio State football and working crossword puzzles.

He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Susan; daughter, Laura Jones-Ball (Jonathan Ball); son, Steven; grandchildren, James, Rhys, and Darin; and sister, Doris Forward. He was preceded in death by his son, David.

The family would like to express appreciation for the staff at Riverside and Vitas Hospice for the exceptional care he received during his illness.

A Memorial Service will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday (Aug. 18) at Gethsemane Lutheran Church, 35 East Stanton Ave., Columbus, OH 43214 where the family will receive friends one hour prior to the time of service. A small luncheon will take place immediately following. The day of services is also the 61st wedding anniversary to his beloved Susan.
