Marohn wins six at Tioga

Nichols, NY — Timeout I’m Tired (Jim Marohn Jr.) uses a late run to capture the Tioga Downs Open Pace ($12,000) on Sunday (July 30). Jim Marohn Jr. would capture six wins on the day.

Time Out I’m Tired won for the fifth time this season.

Hot Rod Dylan (Mike Simons) would get the jump on the open field and set all the early fractions of :27.0, :55.2, 1:22.4, 1:50.3. Time Out I’m Out Tired (Artiscape), who is owned by William Mears and Janine Mc Ilvain, while trained by Joe Skowyra, would ride the whole way in the pocket.

Marohn Jr. found an opening at the pylons and steered the 5-year-old right by to just nip the even-money favorite, Hot Rod Dylan in 1:50.3. Dash Of Danger (Jim Meittinis) would finish third.

Time Out I’m Tired won for the fifth time this season.

Marohn Jr. would get to the winners circle five more times. First with Bill Jones ($15.60). Then with Tailgunner Hanover ($15.30), Winyard Hanover ($8.90). His last two would follow his Open Pace win, with Lyon’s Johnny ($6.60) and Owosso Flash ($16.60).

Tioga Downs returns to live racing on Friday (Aug. 4) at 6:45 p.m.

Dresden Raceway

Tyler Borth and Donnie Rankin Jr. each had a big day at Dresden Raceway. Borth scored four winners on the day while Ranking hit his 1,700th win as a trainer. Borth started off the day as he guided 14-year-old Wesky to the winner’s circle in 2:01. The Wesgate Crown horse is co-owned and trained by Borth while father, Bill Borth, is a co-owner. The Ingersoll native scored his second driving win and second training win of the day in the sixth race while between the shafts of 5-year-old Angus Hall gelding Stonebridge Score in 2:01.1. Stonebridge Score is owned by the elder Borth. On A Cloud was the winner of the seventh race with Borth at the controls in 2:00 flat. The 4-year-old Shadow Play mare is owned and trained by Tom Bain of South Woodslee and co-owned Dave Bain of Woodslee. Borth wrapped up the day going wire-to-wire with Faith N Dreams in the 10th race. The 5-year-old Eagle Luck mare paced the mile in 2:00.3 for owner, Diane Sylvester of Sarnia and trainer Dwayne May. Donnie Rankin Jr. notched his 1,700th training win today with Action Town. Rankin grew up in the horse business in Nova Scotia working with his father Dannie Sr. and was 11-years-old when he started training a horse by the name of Patriotic Pan. Rankin moved to Ontario in 1988 and has had great success in the business as an owner, trainer and driver. “My whole family has been involved in the horse business. Dad and my brothers Joe, Sonny, Caley have all been in the horse business and even my sisters Darlene and Mary Lou trained horses.” Rankin said. The 58-year-old trainer said, “I’ve had some pretty nice horses through the years and love the business and have met so many nice people.” Some of the horses that Rankin has conditioned over the years include Savor The Memory, Marked Authority, Chyna Dee and WL Develops League. As a trainer Rankin has banked almost C$8.9 Million in purses while as a driver he has visited the winner’s circle 4,652 times and has chalked up C$18.5 Million in purses. The handle today at Dresden was C$25,149.
