Clinton Raceway to hold Kin Pace Sunday

by Jessica Carnochan, for Clinton Raceway

Clinton, ON — In conjunction with the Kinsmen and Kinette Club of Clinton’s annual festival, PlucKinFest and the Municipality of Central Huron’s, Canada 150 Celebrations, Clinton Raceway is the place to be this Sunday (July 9).

The Kin Pace, which is open to 3-year old Ontario sired pacing fillies, pays homage to the early days of Clinton Raceway, when the Kinsmen and Kinette Club introduced pari-mutuel wagering to the grassroots track in 1970. The first Kin Pace was contested in 2008, and won by Speed McQueen and driver Tom Hamm in a time of 1:57.1.

Driver Trevor Henry has won the event three times and is back this year, going for his fourth.

“I don’t know a lot about her, but it looks like she can leave, and the four-hole is a good spot in Clinton” mentions Henry about Loves Angel, for trainer Gregg McNair. “Hopefully I can manage a two-hole trip and we can pick up the pieces late.”

The $61,200 purse is the largest that Clinton Raceway will see in it’s 15-week season.

Trackside, the Huron Heat Female Hockey Association will be fundraising for their up coming season, the second for the new organization. Fans will find a BBQ, bake sale, 50/50 and lots of activities for kids with bouncers, obstacles, face painters and more.

In celebration of Canada’s 150, the first 150 guests to the customer service table following race one will receive a Clinton Raceway/Canada 150 magnet as well as special draws and giveaways on the Super Sunday Show throughout the day’s 10-race card. After the Kin Pace (race 10) one lucky fan will win a Pineridge Backyard BBQ Bash for 20 people. Ballots will be located in the race program.

Former Toronto Blue Jay, Jesse Barfield will be on site for photos and autographs by donation to the Huron Heat from 2-4 p.m., with the PlucKinFest chicken BBQ taking place following the races, tickets are $15 with take out available.

Four divisions of Ontario Grassroots events for 3-year old colt trotters will go to post at 1:30 p.m. For more details and information visit www.clintonraceway.com.
