PA Racing Commission approves new harness track process

from the USTA Communications Department

Columbus, OH — The Pennsylvania Horse Racing Commission voted to begin accepting applications for the state’s only remaining Standardbred pari-mutuel racetrack license, according to Thursday’s (Feb. 2) Pennsylvania Ag Connection.

Applications for the license are due from Feb. 15 through June 14, 2017 and should be submitted to the PHRC, c/o Stephanie Pavlik, Department of Agriculture, Room 301, 2301 N. Cameron St., Harrisburg, PA 17110.

The harness track license became available in December 2016 as a result of the state Supreme Court’s ruling to deny an appeal of the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board’s decision not to grant Endeka Entertainment, LP a Category 1 gaming license to operate a casino in Lawrence County. Endeka abandoned the project following that ruling.
