Nick Boyd was injured in a charity hockey tournament.

He was charging hard to the net and in order to avoid a collision with the goalie, he jumped over him only to hit the boards. Hard. Boyd sustained multiple injuries including a dislocated shoulder, chipped shoulder bone, fractured rib cage and punctured lung.

One of the most popular drivers at Kawartha Downs each season, Boyd has been competing on the WEG circuit during the off season with JRs Big Buddy, a Mister Big 4-year-old gelding he’s training for Kawartha veteran Junior West of Orono.

The horse has been consistently picking up checks and is into go Monday night (Jan. 23) in the 10th race at Woodbine.

Boyd had been scheduled to drive but will have to sit this one and the next few out while his injuries heal.
