Saturday night card offers value at The Meadowlands

from the Meadowlands Media Relations Department

East Rutherford, NJ — Saturday night’s (Jan. 14) racing card at The Meadowlands is horseplayer-centric with an unprecedented seeding of the Pick-5 pool to go along with the first leg of the World Harness Handicapping Championship.

To kick the night off, The Meadowlands is putting up the commission (take-out) that the track received from this past Saturday’s Pick-5 wager plus another $7,500 to create $10,000 in “seed” money that will be added to Jan. 14’s Pick-5 pool. This will essentially lower the wager’s takeout rate by creating a carryover-like scenario.

The Pick-5 covers the first five races on the card and carries a low 15 percent takeout. The average pool was more than $57,000 last weekend.

The WHHC qualifier draws a sophisticated crowd of harness players and focuses on Meadowlands races. You may enter as a “walk-up” until 7 p.m. on Saturday evening.

On the track, another pari-mutuel puzzler with big fields and the core of emerging young drivers that have made this winter’s racing so competitive and entertaining will play out over the course of the evening.

The Meadowlands is also giving away cash via the “Pay Off Your Holiday Bills” promotion where you can take home up to $500 by merely signing up by race five.

Horsemen should be advised that the Tattersalls January Winter Mixed Sale takes place in The Meadowlands paddock starting 11 a.m. on Monday (Jan. 16).

Post time is 7:15 p.m.
