Avivas Winner led from gate to wire to capture the 2016 GSY Winter Series final in 1:59.2 at the Meadowlands on Thursday night.

Ten trotters went to post and as the gate sprung open, Tony Ciuffetelli aboard Avivas Winner went to the lead and never looked back. Leaving hard out of the six-hole, he carved out fast fractions at the first three callings of :28.1, :56.2, and 1:26. At one point in the race, he lead by 10 lengths.

This margin was too much for the closers to overcome and Ciuffetelli held on for a 1-1/2 victory of the mile trot that was timed in 1:59.2.

Ellen’s Streak closed for second with John Kokinos holding the lines and post time favorite Dream Rocker, with 2016 Amateur Driver of the Year Hannah Miller in the sulky, who was parked the entire mile, rounded out the trifecta. This 5-year-old gelding out of Credit Winner took the lions’ share of the $12,500 finals purse.

He is owed by Scheigert Racing Stable LLC and was trained tonight by the winning driver Anthony Ciuffetelli.

The next GSY Amateur Series should begin in March 2017 at the Big M. Have a happy holiday season and healthy New Year. See everyone back at the track in 2017.
