BBS Sugarlight just held off Diamond on the outside to win the Prijs der Giganten.

BBS Sugarlight, who finished ninth at Yonkers, raced for the second time after he returned to Europe. In his first start he finished second, and now he won after he had been in command most of the race.

However, BBS Sugarlight, driven by Vidar Hop, had to fight for the victory as the Dutch trotter Diamond, driven by Robin Bakker, came with a late burst down the stretch. BBS Sugarlight managed to win the 1-5/16 mile event by a head, timed in 1.58.1.

The purse for the winner was $30,000.

The Prijs der Giganten was at one time a very important international race and the list of former winners include top French trotter Ideal du Gazeau, who won the International Trot three times in a row.
