Boffin comes from behind to win Pocono feature

from the PHHA/Pocono

Wilkes-Barre, PA — Boffin made it two straight against high-level conditioned trotting stock at The Downs at Mohegan Sun Pocono Sunday (Oct. 23), taking the $20,000 feature again by using come-from-behind tactics and winning here in 1:53.4 to equal his seasonal best that he first notched last week.

The meet’s leading driver, George Napolitano Jr., sent Boffin on a three-wide sweep from fifth nearing the three-quarters, and the altered son of Donato Hanover took all forward steps from there, gaining the lead turning for home in winning by 2-1/2 lengths over Watkins, with pacesetter Commentary holding on for third.

Boffin has now won almost one-third of his career starts (31 of 94) and has earned $375,102. Anette Lorentzon trains him and is co-owner with ACL Stuteri AB and Kjell Johansson.

In the $18,000 pacing feature, Lone Survivor, looking buried fourth on the wood past the five-eighths, got some racing luck, then used it to maximum advantage while taking a lifetime mark of 1:52.3.

Pacesetter Hurrikane Ali broke when a challenge from pocket-sitter Dontcallmefrancis started mid-turn, with Nimble And Quick two-wide behind that one. Driver Anthony Napolitano got Lone Survivor around the breaker, then ducked back inside and the winning son of Art Major was able to charge up the Pocono Pike to win by 1-1/4 lengths. Nimble And Quick, the only 2-year-old Stallion Series champion able to defend his title at three last month, was along for second, a neck ahead of Dontcallmefrancis.

Lone Survivor, who has bankrolled $167,885, is trained by Richard Johnson for Joseph Bongiorno LLC and Michelle Yanek.
