Stirling Cadet was a 1:55.1 winner in the Open Trot.

The Jackie Rousse-trained 5-year-old was assigned post position eight in the $15,000 feature and while he left a bit at the start, the razor sharp highstepper had a lot to do in the second half of the mile.

Stirling Cadet moved third over and fanned to the far outside around the final turn before charging home to win in 1:55.1. Frank Coppola Jr. piloted him to his sixth win of the season and fourth in the local Open in the 2016 campaign. Boli (Wally Hennessey) was the runner-up in the feature for the fifth consecutive time while Cashahallic (Mark Beckwith) earned the show spot.

Stirling Cadet was the race’s 9-5 betting favorite and paid $5.90 to win. The exacta returned $35.20 while the triple came back $155.50.

Stirling Cadet, who moved his lifetime earnings past the $200,000 mark with the Wednesday win, has now hit the board in nine consecutive tries in the local Open.

Live racing continues on Thursday night at Saratoga with first post time set for 7:05 p.m.
