by Amy Hollar

Northfield, OH — John N. Perrin, 65, died May 26, 2016. The boisterous Mr. Perrin passed away to faster horses and smoother putting greens.

Mr. Perrin was born Feb. 25, 1951, in Beloit, Wis., to the late Illinois Harness Horsemen’s Hall of Fame member, Dorman and Elizabeth Perrin.

He was well known throughout Midwest race tracks. Mr. Perrin was not shy to tell stories of his racing exploits with some of his favorite horses being Speed Bonus, Flash Paper, Sharp Steve, and The Big Wazzoo.

Other stories he was fond of telling are not for public print but will be passed around for decades from those who had the honor of hearing them first hand, especially the drivers’ room colony at Northfield Park who often goaded him into repeating a story for their nightly entertainment.

He leaves behind his “hard work’in, good look’in” wife of more than 30 years, Cheri; and son, JD, whom he relished watching his success on the Buffalo/Batavia racing circuit. He is also survived by his brother, Mike; and sister, Penny. A sister, Carol, recently preceded him in death.

During a special Sunday evening (May 29) card there will be a celebration of his life in the track kitchen at Northfield Park. Plenty of food will be available and all are encouraged to attend and share memories with Cheri and JD.
