National Pedigreed Livestock Council annual conference opens in Columbus

Columbus, OH — The National Pedigreed Livestock Council annual conference kicked off Tuesday morning (May 3) at the Columbus Airport Marriott. Hosted by the USTA, the event brings together professionals from pedigreed livestock and membership organizations, such as swine, goat, cattle and equine.

USTA Executive Vice President and CEO Mike Tanner welcomed the National Pedigreed Livestock Council to Columbus on Tuesday morning.

USTA Executive Vice-President and CEO Mike Tanner welcomed the group to open the conference.

Aron Weir from Maxxam Analytics, the Canadian-based company that does the USTA’s DNA testing, then introduced Calla Crafts, who spoke on ‘The New Science of Leading, Energizing and Engaging,’ the theme for this year’s meeting.

Additional topics for discussion on Tuesday’s agenda include:

  • Developments in Registry Panel with representatives from the Arabian Horse Association, American Jersey Cattle Association and the National Swine Registry
  • Electronic Voting, by Steve Taylor, NPLC President and CEO of the Appaloosa Horse Club
  • Value of Pedigreed Livestock Globally
  • Engaging and Energizing Volunteers

The USTA will also be doing a presentation on the fractional ownership initiative, with a drawing for two fractional shares sponsored by the Ohio Harness Horsemen’s Association.

Prior to starting the conference, the officers of the NPLC conducted their board meeting Monday afternoon and asked USTA Registrar TC Lane to sit on their board. Lane’s term commences immediately and is for three years.

The NPLC conference continues and concludes Wednesday (May 4).
