A grand slam and a hat trick at Plainridge

from Plainridge Park Casino

Plainville, MA — It’s the time of the year when the baseball season is beginning and the Stanley Cup playoffs are in full swing at the same time, so it was only appropriate that the fans at Plainridge Park Casino were treated to a grand slam and a hat trick on Monday afternoon (May 2).

Jim Hardy, the perennial leading driver at Plainridge, notched four wins on the program, and Hardy’s grand slam vaulted him into a tie for second place in the driver standings at the Massachusetts track. Along with Eddie Davis and Chris Long, Hardy is just one win off the pace set by Greg Merton.

While Hardy was putting on a driving clinic, trainer Shawn Answeeney — an avid Buffalo Sabres fan — was as relentless as Jack Eichel at the opponents’ goal mouth. Answeeney tallied three wins of his own on the Monday program and the Plainridge veteran has moved into familiar territory — the top five of the trainer standings.

Live racing continues at Plainridge on Tuesday afternoon. During the months of May and June live racing takes place every Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. Post time is at 4 p.m.
