Tom Stubbs, 89, dies

Columbus, OH — Tom Stubbs, 89, of Alledonia, Ohio died Tuesday, March 15, 2016 at his home.

He was born October 15, 1926 in Quaker City, Ohio, the youngest of nine children of Isaac and Lourie Lingo Stubbs. Tom was a US Navy Veteran of WWII, a former teacher, coach, and a retired Professor and Assistant Dean Emeritus with Ohio University Eastern. He was a member of the Armstrong Mills United Methodist Church, the Ohio Horsemen’s Association, the United States Trotting Association, Sunsbury Lodge 362 F & AM, and American Legion Post 768.

Tom will always be remembered for his love of horses and his passion for harness racing.

Surviving are his wife of 65 years, Miriam Mowder Stubbs; his children, Marcia Jo (Steve) Wells of Alledonia and Gregg Stubbs of Marysville; his grandchildren, Hannah and Ben Stubbs and Ryan (Kayla) Wells; also a great-granddaughter, Kaylee Wells; a sister, Dorothy Horger of Columbus; several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Tom was preceded in death by a grandson, Troy Wells; two brothers and five sisters.

Visitation will be held Friday, March 18 at the Harper Funeral Home, Beallsville from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Visitation will then be held at the Armstrong Mills United Methodist Church on Saturday, March 19 from noon until the time of the funeral service at 1 p.m. with Pastor Rusty Atkinson officiating. Interment will follow in Powhatan Cemetery with full military honors by Powhatan Veterans’ Association. Memorial contributions may be made in Tom’s name to Armstrong Mills United Methodist Church, ℅ 56014 Brands Run Road, Alledonia, Ohio 43902.
