Quick Shot, Smart Rokker win Sunday Dover features

Dover, DE — Quick Shot and Smart Rokker shared the Sunday (Feb. 28) spotlight, winning their co-feature races at Dover Downs.

Kathleen Brewer’s Quick Shot posted a 1:52.3 victory in a $20,000 claiming pace. Ross Wolfenden scored the first of his two wins, steering the Art Major-Cannae Cindy 4-year-old gelding to his third win in a row for Brewer, who is also the trainer. Manolito Montoya (Vic Kirby) finished second with Big Secret (Jim Morand) the show horse.

A major change in post positions paid off for Peter Venturini, Peter Venturini III and Brian Malone, the owners of Smart Rokker, who won his second in three starts in a male conditioned pace. Malone trains the Rocknroll Hanover-Sass Newton gelding who won for the 20th time in his career, raising his lifetime earnings to $144,567 with his third win in nine starts this year. Tony Morgan, the second leading all-time dash winning driver in North America, piloted his third success of the day. Layden (Ross Wolfenden) closed well to take second with Drunk On You (Allan Davis) third.

Tony Morgan had three wins, while Ross Wolfenden, Jonathan Roberts and Vince Copeland had two wins each.

Lucan Hanover, Bushwacker, Dapper Dude, Mustang Art and Atta Boy Dan are among the eight starters in the $30,000 Preferred Pace on Monday.

Monday through Thursday racing begins at 4:30 p.m. Dover Downs is dark on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.
