Pari-mutuel wagering clears Georgia Senate committee

Columbus, OH — The Atlanta Business Chronicle is reporting that legislation to legalize pari-mutuel wagering on horse racing in Georgia cleared its first hurdle in the General Assembly on Wednesday (Jan. 27).
The state Senate’s Regulated Industries and Utilities Committee approved a constitutional amendment allowing Georgians to vote on horse racing this fall, the first step toward sending the proposal to the full Senate. Committee members also gave a “do pass” recommendation to a separate bill spelling out details of how horse racing would work in Georgia.
