Tipitina upsets at 8-1 in Meadows feature; Pantaleano wins six

by Evan Pattak, for the Meadows

Washington, PA — Shoved four wide through the final turn, Tipitina blazed through the stretch to pull off the 8-1 upset in Monday’s (Jan. 25) $22,500 Filly & Mare Not Listed Preferred/Preferred Handicap Pace at The Meadows.

Tipitina was third over down the backside and appeared to have excess cover. But when Eric Goodell showed her racetrack, she brushed past the field and nipped Spreester by a nose in 1:54.1. Early leader Set Me Up saved show.

Mark Goldberg trains Tipitina, a 6-year-old daughter of Rocknroll Hanover-Hi Ho Molly who captured her second straight race and pushed her career bankroll to $212,969, for Rags To Riches Of PA.

Jim Pantaleano collected six wins — including four legs of the Pick-5 — while Aaron Merriman fashioned a triple on the 15-race card. Fueled by a four-day carryover and a $25,000 guarantee, the Pick-5 returned $25,990.75 for a single winning 50-cent ticket.
