Just A Jolt is too much in $27,500 Delaware Special

Dover, DE — It was more like a Spring day with late misty drizzle at Dover Downs on Monday (Dec. 14) where four horses won in 1:50 or faster. Ironically, the top purse $27,500 Delaware Special was not one of them, but Just A Jolt registered his 10th win on the year, needing only a 1:51 performance with Vic Kirby holding the reins.

Just A Jolt was a 1:51 winner in the Delaware Special.

Just A Jolt won his second Delaware Special in a row, upping his seasonal bankroll to $167,930 for owner Janet Hudson. The 5-year-old altered son of Village Jolt-Just Wait Kate, trained by Jim King, left from outside post seven in the feature and finally took the lead after the half, then cruised to victory. The only contest was for second where Don’t Ya Know (Brett Miller) edged Captive Audience (Corey Callahan).

Rocknroll Jewel led off the fast day with a 1:49.1 triumph, the fastest win of George Dennis’ career, in the first race, a $20,000-$25,000 male claiming handicap. Dylan Davis conditions the Rocknroll Hanover-Michelle’s Jewel 8-year-old gelding for owner Tom Lazarro. Raritan Bay (Allan Davis) closed strongly for second in front of Giant Sculpture (Yannick Gingras).

Gingras later guided Lou Frascella’s Phil Your Boots home, also in 1:49.1, to win a $20,000 male Winners Over pace. It was the Shanghai Phil-Tassagh gelding’s 14th success of the season and fourth win in his last five starts for trainer Andy Harris. Snap To It (Brett Miller) was runner-up. Mister Truth (Ross Wolfenden) was third best. It was one of Yannick Gingras’ five winning drives.

This week only, Dover Downs races daily through Thursday with post time at 4:30 p.m. From Dec. 18 through Dec. 27 Dover Downs will be dark with a Christmas Holiday break. Racing will resume on Monday (Dec. 28).
