by Pete Medhurst, for Rosecroft Raceway

Ft. Washington, MD — James Whalen Jr.’s Varsity Hanover made a quarter pole move to the front and did not look back in scoring a 1:51.4 victory in the $10,000 Open Pace on Tuesday night (Oct. 27) at Rosecroft Raceway.

Donald Dancer piloted Varsity Hanover to his third win in his last four starts at Rosecroft. Whalen also trains the 6-year-old son of Modern Art who held off Bridge Jumper (Sean Bier) and Movie Idol (Frank Milby).

In the $10,000 Open Trot, Windsong Ingenius scored a wire-to-wire triumph in 1:56. Russell Foster drove for owner-trainer Arty Foster Jr., leaving from the start after four horses broke including 1-5 favorite Deadliest Catch who never made the gate. Brilliance Hanover (Timmy Offut) was second, while All Shoes On Deck (Mike Rossi) was third.

Sean Bier, Frank Milby and Jared Moyer all scored driving doubles on the card.
