Hall brothers in spotlight in Italy

Offspring to the two brothers, Conway Hall and Angus Hall, were triumphant Sunday afternoon (Oct. 25) at the Agnano Racetrack in Naples, Italy.

Conway Hall has a very strong Italian 2-year-old crop. In fact, four in the Italian Top Ten are sired by Conway Hall.

On Sunday afternoon offspring to Conway Hall won the Gran Premio Ancat for 2-year-old colts and fillies.

The colt division was won by Uno Italia, driven by Giampaolo Minnucci, in 1:59.1f, while the filly division was won by Upper Dany, driven by Mario Minopoli Jr. in 1.59.4f. The purse for the winner in both divisions was $23,500.

Both winners have Varenne as a grandfather.

The richest race on the card in Naples was the mile-event Gran Premio Freccia d’Europa with a total purse of $122,000. The 7-year-old mare Orsia — sired by Angus Hall — won in 1:55.3 with Antonio di Nardo in the bike. The purse for the winner was $51,000.

In Sweden the 6-year-old mare Delicious (sired by Cantab Hall), with Ôrjan Kihlström in the bike, won the Müllers Memorial raced at Jägersro.

That was the third win in a row for Delicious, who won the 1-5/8th mile event in 1:56f (mile rate). Her two other wins have been over the mile and over 1-5/16th miles, so one could say that Delicious is an all-around trotter.

Also on Sunday afternoon, eliminations for the Swedish Breeders Crown races were held at Solvalla.

In the 4-year-old event, Nuncio, driven by Stefan Melander, was the 1-10 favorite, but finished second behind 91-1 longshot Owen Face, driven by Adrian Kolgjini.

The Breeders Crown finals will be raced on Sunday (Nov. 8).
