Maven third in Finland

Maven, driven by Johnny Takter and favored to win the Kymi Grand Prix in Finland, tired down the stretch and finished third.

Johnny Takter eased Maven as the gate left the field, but after the first quarter he made his move and soon Maven was leading the field.

Going around the last turn Maven looked as if she was going to win, but down the stretch she tired and a fast-finishing Trebol, driven by Gabriel Pou Pou, went past and easily won the 1-5/16 mile event in 1.53.3f (mile rate) followed by Oasis Bi and Maven.

Trebol is an 8-year old Spanish-bred trotter, who has been trained and raced in France the last four years, who now has lifetime earnings of $550,000.

Trebol raced as a 2-year-old at the Balearic Island, Menorca and as a 3-year-old at Mallorca. At the Son Pardo track at Mallorca, he won the biggest race in Spain, the Gran Premi Nacional, which carries a purse for the winner of $55,000. In the Kymi Grand Prix the purse for the winner was $95,000.

In Sweden, 3-year-old trotters were in focus at Färjestad in the E3 finals over 1-5/16 miles.

The filly division was won by Timbal, driven by Robert Bergh, in a new world record of 1.56.3f (mile rate). The old record was held by D’One (1.57.2f) who is now in the United States and is expected to race at a later date.

Timbal is sired by From Above and is bred by Margareta Wallenius-Kleberg at her Menhammar Stud.

In the colt divisions Poet Broline, driven by Peter Untersteiner, was an easy winner in 1.56f (mile rate), a new Swedish record. The purse for the winner in each division was $110,000.

Poet Broline is sired by Quite Easy and was raised and bred at Broline Farm.
