PA Turnpike construction update affecting transportation south after Saturday’s card

by Jerry Connors

Wilkes-Barre, PA — Rick Kane, Director of Racing at The Downs at Mohegan Sun Pocono, wants to advise horsemen and others coming to tonight’s big program, especially those who usually use the Northeast Extension of the Pennsylvania Turnpike to come south after the races, that both lanes of the Turnpike will be closed from midnight (12 a.m., Sunday) to approximately 6 a.m. due to construction between Exits 56 (Allentown) and 44 (Quakertown).

It appears that Route 309, three miles east of the Turnpike and a four-lane highway according to reports, is the best alternative to circumvent this blockage, as there appear to be an easy off-ramp at Allentown Exit 56 and a three-mile drive back west to regain the Turnpike at Quakertown Exit 44.
