City Council members race for local non-profits at Saratoga

from Saratoga Casino and Raceway

Saratoga Springs, NY — Saratoga Casino and Raceway today announced they will be hosting a special celebrity harness race featuring members of the Saratoga Springs City Council. The “Centennial Celebration Pace” will take place during the evening card on Saturday (June 27) in recognition of the Saratoga Springs Centennial Celebration. The non-wagering exhibition race is set to go off at 6:15 p.m.

City Council members will ride in a two-seat jog cart along with a professional harness driver for the “Centennial Celebration Pace.” Four Saratoga Springs City Council members will be participating: Mayor Joanne Yepsen, Commissioner of Public Safety Chris Mathiesen, Commissioner of Finance Michele Madigan, and Commissioner of Public Works Skip Scirocco. They will each be outfitted with their own colors and helmets for the half-mile race.

“Saratoga Casino and Raceway has been a committed partner with our city since their very first race in 1941,” said Mayor Yepsen. “I’m excited to participate in Saturday night’s race to raise funds for local non-profits and celebrate Saratoga Springs’ Centennial.”

Following the race, the City Council members will enter the ‘Cash Cube’ for 30 seconds to grab as much money as they can for a charity of their choice. Mayor Yepsen has selected Saratoga Therapeutic Equestrian Program; Commissioner Madigan has selected Camp Abilities Saratoga — a service project of the Saratoga Springs Lions Club; and Commissioners Mathiesen and Scirocco have chosen Franklin Community Center.

Additionally, based on their finish in the exhibition race, Saratoga Casino and Raceway will add to the donation: $200 to the winner’s charity, $175 to second, $150 to third, and $125 to fourth.

“It’s an honor for us to host such an exciting event,” said Rita Cox, Senior Vice President of Marketing at Saratoga Casino and Raceway. “We’re thrilled our City Council members will be joining us for this one of a kind event to honor The Saratoga Springs Centennial and raise money for these important local charities.”

Also planned for the Centennial Celebration is the casino’s June grand prize drawing on Saturday (June 27). The ‘$40,000 Sun-Sational Celebration’ will feature 100 winners of $100 throughout the day in honor of Saratoga Spring’s 100th year. There will also be two winners of $10,000 in cash at midnight.
