Cammikey digs in, takes Meadows’ $18,000 pace

Washington, PA — Cammikey covered the back half in a brisk 54.4 and had just enough to score narrowly in Wednesday’s (June 3) $18,000 Winners Over $10,000 Life/Preferred Handicap Pace at The Meadows.

Cammikey enjoyed a one-length lead over the pocket-sitting Easy Again at the top of the stretch, but Easy Again brushed through the Lightning Lane to erase most of that margin. Cammikey dug in and held off Easy Again by a nose for Brian Zendt in 1:51, with Royal Heart third.

Bill Zendt trains Cammikey, a 4-year-old homebred son of Somebeachsomewhere-Always Cam who extended his career bankroll to $252,037, for Cam Land LLC. It was one of three wins on the 13-race card for Brian Zendt.

Harrington Raceway
William Cantrell’s Classic Belisima ($4.80, Jon Roberts) won her sixth straight race Wednesday (June 3) in the $16,000 Open Trot at Harrington Raceway in 1:55. Trained by John Cabot, the 4-year-old daughter of Crazed was makinger Harrington debut after five consecutive wins, including a sweep of the Weiss series at Pocono Downs (Wilkes-Barre, PA). Leaving from post position one, Classic Belisima took no prisoners in her front end romp that resembled a training mile over Wingus and I Like My Boss. It was her 10th win of the year. Favorite Powerful Charger, who was bidding for a third straight triumph, made a break near the three-quarters and never threatened the winner.

Harrah’s Philadelphia
There were two sensational mares making their second start of their 4-year-old campaign on Wednesday (June 3) at Harrah’s Philadelphia. Brad Grant’s Sandbetweenurtoes and Joe Davino and Pat O’Brien’s Act Now were in action in the feature, an upper-conditioned level pace for fillies & mares. Sandbetweenurtoes was eight for eleven in her sophomore campaign, earning more than $250,000, while Act Now bankrolled more than $300,000 in her 3-year-old season. As the wings closed, Sandbetweenurtoes (Brett Miller) left aggressively for the lead, but so did others, including Cinamony (Yannick Gingras) from post eight. They battled through an opening quarter of :27.1. Sandbetweenurtoes was able to secure the lead shortly after, getting to the half in :55.1. Fifteen time winner Coffee Addict (Corey Callahan) emerged first-over but failed to gain, hampering the efforts of Act Now (Dave Miller) who was caught behind stalling cover. After three-quarters in 1:23, Act Now began to make progress, but not before Sandbetweenurtoes was able to sprint away, winning by two lengths, stopping the clock in 1:51. Cinamony narrowly held second, while Act Now finished third. It was the daughter of Somebeachsomewhere’s first win of the season, and her ninth overall. She is trained by Larry Remmen and paid $6.20 to win. In other news, Yannick Gingras had five driving wins on the day. He won four of the first five on the card. Corey Callahan checked in with two, while Scott Zeron drove 81-1 Attention Seeker to a huge upset victory in Race 13, keying a $3,327.60 late daily double payoff.
