Drew Campbell wins six at Scarborough

Scarborough, ME — Every Sunday is “Fun Day” at Scarborough Downs, where six Budweiser drafts (on special) would cost a fan a mere $12 in the Winner’s Circle Lounge. This Sunday (April 12) though, driver Drew Campbell put together a six-pack of a different kind out on the racetrack, riding roughshod over an accomplished driving colony en route to winning six of the ten races carded.

Ashlee’s Cool Gal cruised home in 1:56.1, the fastest mile of the 2015 meet and one of six wins on the day for Drew Campbell.

The Campbell Cavalcade quickly went into motion on Sunday, winning the first race of the day with Kevin Gee’s new trotter Luvinuisfun in a seasonal best clocking before securing the first of two wins for trainer Dick Bartlett with the trotter Nanny McPee, making her first start of the year a winning one.

The most impressive winner from the Bartlett roster though was Wishing You Well. Campbell steered the rookie 3-year-old from far off the pace in the colt’s first lifetime start to stop the timer in an impressive 1:58.

The most impressive tally of the day came next as Campbell piloted the Maine-bred Ashlee’s Cool Gal to her first win of the season in 1:56.1, the fastest time recorded thus far on the young Scarborough Downs season. Her win was one of three consecutive trips down victory lane by members of trainer Stephen Murchison’s roster.

Campbell also got two entries home from the Steve Vafiades barn, first behind Check Dons Pulse (1:58.4) before closing out his torrid day with Skyway Shania’s 1:57.2 speed-show in the finale.

Campbell now sits firmly in command of the Scarborough driver standings as the third week of the meet comes to its conclusion. The man in the orange and black colors now holds 17 wins to his credit, six up on Gary Mosher with whom he started the weekend tied.

Live harness racing is proudly featured at Scarborough Downs every Friday, Saturday and Sunday with post time slated for 1 p.m. (EDT). For more information, visit www.ScarboroughDowns.com or our Facebook page.
