New ID Technician for Florida

by T.C. Lane, USTA Director of Registry and Member Services

Columbus, OH — The USTA has recently welcomed Jeff Schaefer to serve as the new ID Technician for the state of Florida.

At the age of 7, Schaefer’s father and mother (Ron and Leah) introduced him to the sport of harness racing. He began driving horses at the age of 17 at Quad City Downs and all throughout Illinois as well as the Florida circuit.

In addition to serving as a USTA ID Technician, he has a successful farrier business which he has operated for more than 20 years.

Prior, Schaefer spent a considerable amount of time refurbishing race bikes for the likes of Stanley Dancer, Continental Farms and many other prominent stables around the country.

Schaefer will be replacing long time USTA ID Technician Buddy Hasher. We wish Buddy all of the best in his endeavors. Hasher is not “retiring” from the business. He will continue to provide ID services for the Thoroughbreds in Florida.

I encourage all of you to avoid the last minute rush and get in touch with Schaefer as soon as possible to schedule an appointment to have your horse tattooed or freeze branded. He can be reached at 954.650.5319 (mobile).
