Dr. George Shaheen dies

Columbus, OH — George A. Shaheen, MD, of Fayetteville, N.Y., died March 3, 2015.

Dr. Shaheen’s career as a neuroradiologist in Syracuse spanned more than 40 years. Throughout his career he worked at the forefront of medical imaging technology, and was until recently engaged in the development of diagnostic laser technology for detecting diabetes.

He took great pleasure in Standardbreds and owned and trained several throughout the years successfully.

Along with his wife, Angie, he was also an avid collector of art, antiques and oriental rugs. He appreciated stimulating conversations, fine food, wine and a good cigar. He became an accomplished gourmet chef. His kindness, keen wit, and astute assessment of character will be remembered fondly by all who knew him.

He was a past member of the USTA and a member and director of the Harness Horse Association of Central New York for many years.

Dr. Shaheen is survived by his sons, Mark, Damon (Ellen), Brian, Scott (Erin) and George (Kathy); grandchildren, Alexander, Sarah, Anna, Sadie and Celia; sister, Agnes; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death in 2005 by his wife of 49 years, Angie (Edith A.).

Family and friends may call Friday (March 6) from 6-9 p.m. at the Newell-Fay Manlius Chapel, 8171 Cazenovia Road, Manlius. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday (March 7) at 11 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Church, Fayetteville.
