by Fred Hudson

Melville, NY — Joe Ricco Jr. will speak at the Green Men’s Group this Wednesday (Feb. 11) at 10 a.m. He will be catch-speaking for Roosevelt Raceway co-author Freddie Hudson who found himself double booked with two speaking engagement scheduled for the same time and date.

But in different states.

Rico will be acting as an ambassador of the sport and will discuss his days as a driver and will talk of the success of his stepson George Brennan to a group of 150, some of which have never seen a harness race.

The Greens Men’s Group is part of the Greens senior community located in Melville, N.Y. The men’s group meets every Wednesday morning and they have had some great and very impressive speakers and they cover every topic imaginable. They have had baseball players (Buddy Harrelson and Frank Catalanotto), hockey players (Mike Bossy), football players (Barry Lyons), college basketball players, a figure skating Olympic champion, etc. Last year Brian Earley, the official of the US Open tennis, spoke to the group. Many years ago they had one of the New York race callers speak before the group.

This is the group’s first adventure into harness racing and their members are looking forward to hearing about the inside workings.

Other than sports personalities they have had scientists, entertainers, authors, newspaper columnists, etc. all speak at their meetings.
