Atta Boy Dan wins Meadows $18,000 Pace

Washington, PA — Atta Boy Dan worked out a cozy pocket trip, and then brushed by his stablemate, Visible Gold, in the lane to capture Wednesday’s (Feb 4) $18,000 Winners Over $10,000 Life/Preferred Handicap Pace at The Meadows.

Visible Gold cut out a seemingly comfortable :59 half, but the sloppy surface and a stern first-over challenge from Desperation left the leader vulnerable. Atta Boy Dan and Eric Goodell had little trouble overtaking Visible Gold, prevailing by 1-1/4 lengths in 1:56.2. Exactly Black was a ground-saving third.

Ron Burke trains Atta Boy Dan, a 6-year-old Western Terror-Dropitlikeitshot gelding who extended his career bankroll to $225,560, for Burke Racing Stable and Weaver Bruscemi LLC.

Aaron Merriman, Dave Palone, Burke and Goodell all fashioned three-baggers on the 14-race card. Goodell’s haul lifted his career victory total to
4,994.

Dover Downs
Veteran Tirade Hanover ended Tough Mac’s win streak, Razor Ramone extended his wins to four straight and Eternal Prince equaled his lifetime record in the top three trots on the Wednesday, Feb. 4 program at Dover Downs. In the $18,000 Open trot, Tirade Hanover took the lead at the start for Vic Kirby and the Crazed-Teagarden Hanover gelding was not to be caught on the sway to a 1:53 victory in the feature. Tough Mac rolled out of post eight trying for the front but had to find room third on the first turn. Corey Callahan pulled Tough Mac out to challenge for the lead through the backstretch but was unable to get to within a half-length of Tirade Hanover. The 5-year-old is owned by Moss, Solomon and trainer Leigh Raymer. It was his second win in the last three, and 22nd success in his career mounting lifetime earnings to $632,430. Tough Mac, second, ended a three race win streak. I’m So Striking came between horses for Eddie Dennis for third place. Wind Of The North was scratched. Roger Plante drove the biggest price winner, 69-1 Juanna Be The Man, owned by Gregg and Tom Morris, to a 1:57 upset in an $11,800 trot for young horses. A $2 win ticket paid $140.60. The 6-3 exacta returned $1,494 and 6-3-4 trifecta returned $4,262. A superfecta of 6-3-4-1 was good for $10,586.40. Pierce led all drivers with four wins, Callahan, Vic Kirby, Jonathan Roberts and trainer Eric Ell had doubles.

Buffalo Raceway
The snow was coming down but it didn’t halt Memumsnotnice and City Kid from registering popular victories in co-featured events at Buffalo Raceway Wednesday night (Feb 4). Memumsnotnice ($2.60) went coast-to-coast in the $9,500 Optional Claiming Pace for the ladies in 1:59.4 while City Kid ($5.00) needed every inch of the mile in the $8,500 Open II Trot to score a come-from-behind neck victory over Northern Spark in 2:02.1 over the good track. Dropping down a notch from the Open Pace for Fillies and Mares, Memumsnotnice set sail from the rail for driver Kevin Cummings in the first race. Posting fractions of 30.2, 1:00.4 and 1:31.4, she put up a final panel of 28.0 to keep the pocket-sitting Bad Girl Vegas (Billy Dobson) a half-length behind. R U For Me (Truman Gale) took the show position. Co-owned by Thatsideofthefence LLC and John Mungillo, it was the second victory in four starts this season for Memumsnotnice (Jereme’s Jet-Bunny Town). Trained by Mungillo, the 6-year-old mare has earned $15,250 in 2015 and $269,950 lifetime. City Kid, in the meantime, sat the pocket and used a late surge to just nip the pace-setting Northern Spark in the Open II Trot. After drafting in the garden spot behind Northern Spark (John Cummings Jr.), City Kid (Dobson) was bound and determined to get the victory. A final surge on the outside at the wire got the job done for City Kid as Northern Spark had to settle for a disappointing second place. Fiorentina (Shawn Gray) took third. City Kid (Cincinnati Kid-Salagadoola), a 7-year-old gelding, is owned by Barbara Russo and is trained by Neal Russo. It was his first win of the season and moved his 2015 earnings to $7,635. Buffalo Raceway completed the first month of the 2015 season with some eye-popping numbers. With nine racing days compared to the same number of dates in 2014, there was an increase of 40 percent in total handle wagered nationwide, averaging over $250,000 nightly. The wagering on track also increased by15 percent.
