Appomattox overcomes post nine, wins Meadows top trot

by Evan Pattak, for The Meadows

Washington, PA — Appomattox vaulted to the lead from post nine, then cruised to a comfortable victory in Monday’s (Feb. 2) $22,500 Winners Over $10,000 Life/Preferred Handicap Trot at The Meadows.

Appomattox had been taking on tough fields at The Meadowlands and more than holding his own. The 6-year-old, battle-tested son of Yankee Glide-Courtney Hill had little trouble overcoming his difficult post position for driver Dave Palone and scored in 1:55.1, two lengths better than the rallying Classicality. The pocket-sitting TSM Photo Bugger held third.

Ron Burke trains Appomattox, who now boasts $456,398 in career earnings, for Reima Kuisla Stable.

Mike Wilder and Burke each fashioned a four-bagger on the 14-race card while Tony Hall enjoyed a triple.
