Odds On Alpha leads Monday winners at Dover

Dover, DE — Odds On Alpha made it two wins in a row, Fashion Showdown returned to the winner’s circle for the fifth time this meet and Flick A Fly won for the first time in two months in a Dover Downs triple feature on a cold and windy Monday (Feb. 2). It was another big day for Corey Callahan, who drove five winners.

Fashion Showdown was one of five winners on the Monday card for Corey Callahan.

Vic Kirby drove Odds On Alpha to a 1:57.4 triumph in a $14,500 Mares Winners Over Pace. Nick Surick, who had the first of two training wins, conditions the Somebeachsomewhere-Odds On Arttoheart 5-year-old for Megan Rogers Racing. It was her eighth lifetime win, hiking her earnings to $73,506. Quotable Quotes (Ben Stafford Jr.) closed to finish second in front of Romanascape (Jim Morand).

Chris White’s Fashion Showdown, who had run off a four-race win streak recently, returned to pay dirt with a 1:56 decision in a $12,500 mares pace, the third of Callahan’s five wins. Craig McInnis trains the 5-year-old daughter of Village Jolt-Catch The Show. Hidden Land (Roger Plante) was an alert second. Stirling Breeze (Ron Pierce) was third.

Flick A Fly dropped down from the Open ranks and closed with a rush in 1:55 for Van Otteloo Stables, trainer Dave McCaffrey and driver Allan Davis to win the highly competitive $12,000 mares pace. Taylor Rei (Montrell Teague) finished second for the third time in her last four outings. Gandview Hanover (George Dennis) picked up show money.

Following Callahan’s five wins were Ron Pierce with three, including a 44-1 shot, and Vic Kirby and Allan Davis with two.
