Swartz Creek, MI — On Saturday night (Dec. 27), Ronnie Wrenn Jr. came to call at Sports Creek Raceway and collected four victories on the 13-race card. By sweeping the early double and then winning the last two races of the night, Wrenn closed the gap against longtime colleague Aaron Merriman to just one win in their battle for most wins by a harness driver in North America in 2014.

The two drivers will continue their title quest in these remaining days of 2014 racing at Ohio’s Northfield Park on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday nights.

It is expected that both drivers may come to Sports Creek to settle the question of the title on New Year’s Eve.

“This adds quite the exclamation point to a strong season of racing and provides an exciting aspect for fans to see on New Year’s Eve. Our New Year’s Eve program at Sports Creek has been a popular tradition in the region for decades and this absolutely would spice up the night,” noted Chris Locking, General Manager of Sports Creek Raceway.

As of Sunday afternoon, Merriman leads in most wins by a North American harness driver by one, 830-829 pver Wrenn.

Both drivers have high earnings totals on the year for their charges. Wrenn has achieved purse winnings of greater than $4 million this year and Merriman’s total has passed $6.5 million thus far.

The 2014 season finale for the course starts at 7 p.m. on Wednesday (Dec. 31).
