Prix d’Amerique winner is off to the races

from the Standardbred Retirement Foundation

Millstone Township, NJ — The Standardbred Retirement Foundation’s winner of the fabulous trip for two to the Prix d’Amerique, Kelly Neely of Florida, had a great answer when we called and asked, “How are you today?” Her answer, “I’ll be doing better when you tell me I won the trip to the Prix.” And that is exactly what Tammy Hollock, SRF’s Administrator, said.

Kelly had a few questions about the big win and one was, “Can I bring my horse?” After the excitement settled a bit we learned that Kelly has one horse racing and right in her own backyard in Pompano Beach, Fla. When we asked that question, “Do you own any racehorses?” she replied with, “Yes, Mighty Nice.” Mighty Nice is her 6-year-old pacing mare by Camluck. Kelly was happy to share that she had just won and made a lifetime mark of 1:53.2.

SRF’s fund raising raffle is very popular and very important as it helps feed and care the 198 Standardbreds in its care, all hoping for homes, of which 125 are unattractive to adopters due to age or injury.

SRF doesn’t limit entry to only adoptable horses, as very few come off the track because they are just too slow. Many have chronic or acute injuries or are old campaigners who have served well and need retirement, as was the case with Shot Gun Wedding who came in just a few days ago at the age of 13. This is why SRF has pastures full of trotters and pacers passed over by potential adopters due to age or injury and depends on fund raising support such as from this raffle.

All 198 horses send a holiday thank you to all of their supporters of the Prix raffle and hope for continued support in a few months when another fabulous event will be up for grabs, the Elitlopp in Sweden where people crowd the streets in excitement and cheer on the show, the horses who gives us this great sport.

Congratulations to Kelly Neely who is rushing at the moment to renew her passport and deciding who will be her lucky partner to accompany her to Paris.
