ORC Commissioner reappointed

from the Ontario Racing Commission

Toronto, ON — Chair Elmer Buchanan announced that John W. Macdonald, Q.C. of Toronto has been reappointed by the Government of Ontario as a member of the Ontario Racing Commission for a period of two years, effective Dec. 1, 2014.

Mr. Macdonald is a lawyer with experience in general practice, primarily of a corporate and commercial nature including clients that race, breed and sell horses. He was first appointed in 2009.

“John has first-hand knowledge of horse racing,” said Buchanan. “I am pleased to have someone with his experience continue in service to racing and the people of Ontario.”

The ORC is the Crown Agency responsible for ensuring public confidence in the horse racing industry in Ontario. It acts in the public interest to govern, direct, control and regulate the horse racing industry in Ontario, including racing in all its forms; the operation of racetracks; and the licensing of racetracks and racing participants.
