Final test for Commander Crowe before heading to U.S.

Swedish trotter Commander Crowe will make his last start Sunday afternoon in Rome, Italy before heading to the United States, where he will race at Yonkers and in the Breeders Crown at The Meadowlands.

Commander Crowe, who is trained in France by Fabrice Souloy, is entered in the Gran Premio Turilli at the Capannelle track in Rome – a race over a mile and with a total purse of $235,000.

Top Swedish driver Ôrjan Kihlström will be in the bike behind the chestnut trotter – just as he will be in the United States.

Sunday is a big day in Italian harness racing as it is Derby Day.

The Derby del Trotto with a total purse of $975,000 is the main event of the day, and has a field of 12 3-year-old trotters going behind the gate. The distance is 1-5/16 mile.

The filly division, the Oaks del Trotto, is raced over the mile and carries a total purse of $275,000.
