Rickshaw Rumble to benefit Horse Lovers United, Inc.

Salisbury, MD — The annual Rickshaw Rumble to benefit Horse Lovers United, Inc., a non-profit horse rescue organization based in Salisbury, Md., will take place on Monday (Sept. 29) at Harrington Raceway.

If you don’t know what a Rickshaw Rumble is, it’s a horse race without horses. A trainer, driver or even a groom gets between the shafts of the sulky and pulls another person down the stretch for 1/16th of a mile. There are usually at least eight teams in each Rumble. There will be a Rumble for “colts and geldings” and one for “fillies and mares.”

Each team has a sponsor that donates $100 to HLU. There are prizes for the winning teams and for the teams’ sponsors. Members and volunteers of HLU will be selling “bets” to fans and to horse people in the paddock. For a $2 “bet” (donation), anyone can try to pick the winning team in each Rumble. All those who pick correctly will have their name put into a big pot and one lucky winner will receive a great gift basket filled with prizes for each Rumble.

Post time for Harrington is 5:30 p. m.

The Rickshaw Rumble is organized by Heather Vitale, the star and producer of Post Time, a local television show featuring harness racing. For more information, call Heather at 302.242.7024, or Lorraine Truitt, president of Horse Lovers United, Inc., at 410.749.3599.
