Jack Ranney, 64, dies

from the USTA Communications Department

Columbus, OH — Jack Miles Ranney, 64, died Aug. 15, 2014, at Mt. Carmel Medical Center.

Mr. Ranney was born in Columbus, Ohio, on July 19, 1950, to Haslett L. and Emma L. (Heft) Ranney. He graduated from Franklin Heights High School. He joined his family business, DW Ranney & Sons, where he worked with his family for 45 years.

He was also a USTA member and member of D W Ranney & Sons Stables, which raced in the 1970s at Ohio racetracks.

Growing up, he was a member of Hilltop Lutheran Church. Later in life, he attended Hoge Memorial Presbyterian Church for 30 years with his wife, Joy. They were married on Nov. 19, 1994.

Mr. Ranney was a 47-year member of Rainbow Lodge #327 and served as District Deputy Grand Master for District 30. He was initiated into Twilight Rebekah Lodge #383 (which his grandmother was a member) in 1991 which later merged with Zoar Rebekah Lodge #887 in Galena.

Mr. Ranney never knew a stranger. He always thought of others before himself. He loved Canada. Fishing is what Jack and Joy loved the most, but it was the “people” that made life special.

Family will receive friends Sunday (Aug. 24) from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. with an Odd Fellow & Rebekah service at 7:30 p.m. Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Monday (Aug. 25) where friends may visit from 9-10 a.m. at Schoedinger Hilltop Chapel, 3030 W. Broad St., with Rev. Ed Sensenbrenner officiating. Interment Sunset Cemetery.

The United Nations Pilgrimage is a two-week trip (for juniors) to New York and Canada to learn about their country, world affairs and how to be a good citizen (unpilgrimage.org). Mr. Ranney felt strongly about helping young people.
