Harness Horse Association of Central New York announces scholarship winners

Vernon, NY — The Harness Horse Association of Central New York is proud to announce the 2014-2015 scholarship winners. A total of $9,000 is available to three students whose parents/guardians are members of the HHA of CNY.

This year an additional $600 was made available through the Darwin LaClair Memorial Scholarship Fund. Darwin was a member of our racing community at Vernon Downs for many years. Each scholarship winner received an additional $200 in Darwin’s memory.

The $5,000 scholarship was awarded to David Mondrick. David is the son of Lynn and John Mondrick of Durhamville, N.Y. David is a 2014 graduate of Oneida High School, Oneida, N.Y., and will be attending Morrisville State College. He is pursuing a degree in Renewable Energy Technology.

The $2,500 scholarship was awarded to Myra Hoke, daughter of Joseph and Theresa Appler of Utica, N.Y. She is a graduate of Owen D. Young Central School and a student at Keuka College. Myra is pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree and majoring in Social Work with a minor in Psychology, maintaining a 3.6 GPA.

Kayla Conte was awarded the $1,500 scholarship. Kayla is the daughter of Arthur Conte, Vernon, N.Y. She is a graduate of Vernon-Verona-Sherrill Central School and is attending Fulton-Montgomery Community College. Kayla is majoring in General Studies and is pursuing a Nursing degree.
