Plainridge horsemen took the Ice Bucket Challenge on Saturday.

On Saturday (Aug. 16) Wheeler challenged his fellow horsemen at Plainridge Racecourse to do the same and the response was overwhelming. A large contingent of Plainridge drivers, officials and employees took the challenge in the winner’s circle following Saturday’s card, all to benefit ALS.

Tony Ristaino did the honors with a bucket of ice water from the track’s John Deere.

Those accepting the challenges are allowed three of their own. Plainridge management and staff are challenging their fellow workers at Hollywood Slots in Bangor, Maine. Likewise, the horsemen at the Massachusetts track have issued a challenge to their counterparts in the Pine Tree State, the members of the Maine Harness Horsemen’s Association. Finally, the Plainridge drivers have challenged the Plainridge judges’ stand.

It has been a busy week for Joel Wheeler, who recently stepped up and sponsored a $50,000 scratch ticket promotion for the Plainridge Back to the Track weekend, which takes place next Saturday and Sunday.
