Prairie Jaguar sprints clear in Tioga feature

Nichols, NY — After an early tussle with Fireyourguns, Prairie Jaguar ($5.10) made the front and did not look back, kicking clear to a four length win in Sunday afternoon’s $14,000 Open Pace at Tioga Downs.

Prairie Jaguar coasted home to a four length Open win.

The 6-year-old Spy Hard gelding found himself embroiled in an early speed duel, forcing Fireyourguns into the pocket through a :26.2 initial quarter.

After a conservative second quarter, Jim Marohn Jr. called upon Prairie Jaguar to accelerate up the backstretch, with 6-5 favorite Fireyourguns keeping pace nicely from the pocket through a 1:23 three-quarter split.

On the far turn, Aaron Byron angled Fireyourguns to the outside to challenge, but Prairie Jaguar dug in all the more, sprinting clear for a four length win in 1:50.4. Fireyourguns held second, while Golden Gun (Tyler Buter) stayed on for third off a tracking trip.

The win was one of three on the day for Marohn, who also proved victorious aboard T’s Electric (another Mike Deters trainee) and Will Kane.

Running Aces
Trainer Gene Miller entered It’s Getty Hairy into a $12,500 claimer for Sunday night at Running Aces. When the race did not fill, his only other option was the $10,000 Open Pace. The 5-year-old Minnesota-sired son of Relentless Yankee responded well to his first taste of Open company with a 1:51.4 triumph for driver Rob Dinning over last week’s winner Smarter Yet (Kim Pluta) and Headsup Yankee (Nick Roland). Wolfswinkel Pacers Inc. own the career winner of 20 races and $95,903. The feature race victory was one of three on the night for Rob Dinning who is presently in sixth place in the local dash standings. Leading driver Nick Roland also fashioned a driving double as did Tim Maier, who has a narrow lead in the trainer standings.

Harrah’s Philadelphia
There were two divisions of a non-winners of $17,500 in their last five starts for pacers on Sunday at Harrah’s Philadelphia. In the first division, it was the 5-year-old Special Blend picking up the win. After staging a furious stretch rally that saw him finish second last week, the son of The Panderosa changed strategies and was sent right to the front. After receiving pressure from Long Live Rock at the three-quarters, Special Blend accelerated in the stretch, holding off a passing lane bid from favorite Adventure Bound, completing the mile in 1:52. Agood Time To Rock finished third. Special Blend is owned by Louis A. and Louis M. Di Tullio, is trained by Anthony De Francesco III, and was driven by Scott Zeron. In the second division, it was heavily favored Bettors Glass scoring the win. Starting from post four, the son of Bettor’s Delight brushed past early leader Rage N Ryan after the quarter and went on to an easy victory, completing the mile in 1:50.4. A Sweet Ride closed quickly up the inside for place, while Malak Uswaad N was third. Bettors Glass is owned by JFE Enterprise LLC and Triple D Stables, trained by Scott DiDomenico, and was one of four winners on the day for driver Tim Tetrick.

Dresden Raceway
Nick Steward was once again the man with the golden hands at Dresden Raceway as he knocked off four wins, including the second in a row for Callmeinthemorning. Steward started the day driving Mack Baran to the winner’s circle for owners Dominic DeSantis and Tom Jacobs. The 10-year-old Rambaran gelding is conditioned by Greg Price and paced in 1:59.1. Dresden’s dash leader then picked up first prize while driving Junior Pride in the third race. The 4-year-old Badlands Hanover horse is owned by Betty Grove and trained by Larry Johnson. Junior Pride paced the mile in 1:58. Steward scored the hat trick in the fifth race with Gracies Harmony. Al Steeves is the owner/trainer of the 7-year-old Hard Rock N Roll mare. Gracies Harmony trotted the mile in 2:01. Callmeinthemorning was the fourth winner of the day for Steward. The 9-year-old Western Hanover mare is owned and trained by Brittany Kennedy. Callmeinthemorning paced the mile in 1:58 after being parked out for the first half of the mile.
